Practice Areas

Carstens, Black & Minteer (CBM) is a premier environmental law firm dedicated to environmental protection.  CBM attorneys are knowledgeable in a wide array of local, state, and federal environmental laws, with specialized expertise in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  In addition to CEQA, CBM provides legal services for clients in issues involving land use, historic preservation, the Coastal Act, state and federal water and air quality laws, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), state and federal endangered species laws, and timber harvesting laws, among others.  As a result of its involvement before public agencies, CBM attorneys also make use of the Public Records Act, Federal Freedom of Information Act, and public meeting laws.

CBM does not, however, handle personal injury litigation, even if it arises from environmental exposures.  Nor does it become involved in issues related to the financial responsibility of property owners for the clean-up of contaminated land, although issues of contamination sometimes are relevant in representation of various groups regarding opposition to certain projects, or support for project alternatives. CBM does not defend entities charged with violating environmental laws.
